John Kester is active as independent researcher, expert, consultant, advisor, teacher, trainer and speaker. He is open for opportunities connected with statistics, capacity building, research, analysis and communication of results and policies in the areas of tourism, transport, trade, investment, environment, sustainable development, competitiveness, etc.
He is the former Director Statistics, Trends and Policy at the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), a specialized agency of the United Nations in Madrid Spain. In this capacity he managed and supervised the activities regarding statistics standards and measurement, implementation and capacity building, worldwide tourism data collection and compilation, analysis of trends and research. He has been collaborating with relevant international organisations such as the Department of Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nations (UN-DESA), the European Commission, the European Travel Commission (ETC), the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) and the World Economic Forum (WEF). He gave presentations and workshops on subjects related to international tourism, trends, forecasting, statistics, data analysis and research, development, competitiveness and sustainability on numerous occasions in countries all around the world.
